TAMWORTH has witnessed plenty of massive concerts and big name artists, and the crowds turned out again in April to welcome US country stars Kip Moore, Lee Brice and Charlie Worsham.
Thousands of people packed the Tamworth Regional Entertainment and Conference Centre for a night of country music celebration with three of the biggest names from the US, and they shared it with their fellow country lovers. It’s a night that left many with sore heads but, most of all, wonderful memories of witnessing moments that may never be repeated in the Country Music Capital.
With fans lined up hours prior to the show and others catching a glimpse and a selfie at the airport, excitement was high in the city.
Charlie Worsham didn’t disappoint, warming up the audience with a mix of his previous hits and new material from his latest album, Beginning of Things. It was then time for Kip Moore to hit the stage and from one hit to the next, his fans sang along with every word. For those present who were less familiar with his work, they soon became fans as he worked the audience and connected with the crowd from his party songs through to his more heartfelt ballads.
Having been to Australia for a few years in a row, playing CMC Rocks and sideshows, his Tamworth show was a chance for fans to see the tracks from his new album, Slowheart, come to life on stage.
Singer-songwriter Lee Brice wrapped up the concert, with a full set of tracks from his vast catalogue including favourites I Drive Your Truck and I Don’t Dance and rockier numbers that were a hit with a crowd that was well and truly warmed up on a cold autumn Tamworth night.
It was a night that all will remember and it was at least a week before the songs stopped replaying themselves in concert-goers’ minds.
It is concerts like these, which bring together three top artists, that show the quality of showmanship that exists in country music. As well as hearing these artists perform their songs live and seeing them connect with the audience the way they do, a highlight was seeing those from Tamworth, surrounding regions and even interstate come out in force to support the show, increasing the chances of the city getting more of these acts.
